Bromma, Sweden - April 21, 2006 -- Em2 Solutions AB today announced the release of a text rendering system for high end publishing applications and wireless hand held devices, called XcgfK.
Typical use of this system includes being able to use large number of high quality fonts effectively on a desktop system, and to provide extensive language and typographical formatting support to applications. The same support is available on wireless hand held device, although the number of available fonts may be limited.
Compared to other text rendering systems XcgfK provides innovative new types of text related services. Such services include extensive language support, advanced typographic formatting support, network support for remote font files, and support for vectorizing fonts. There is also support for basic graphics operations, such as drawing lines, shapes and images.
Supported languages include various Arabic and Indic languages and Asian languages consisting of more than 100 000 characters. High performace is achieved by using a high compression level and having language support integrated at the core of the system. Supported font formats include most popular bitmap, vector and outline formats. The quality of text is notably high, and is optimized specifically for the target device, such as LCD screens, monitors and paper.
The system is packaged as a run-time library, optionally executing it's code in a CPU and memory context separate from the client application. XcgfK's memory and CPU context is quite similar yet separate from the kernel space of the hosting operating system. The benefit of this arrangement include minimal effects on client applications and platform, excellent performance, excellent stability, and a high level of security.
XcgfK is distributed in binary form and is available on most desktop and hand held platforms, such as Linux, PalmOS, Mac OS X, Solaris, Symbian, Win32 and WinCE. Supported processors include powerpc, x86, m68k, sparc, and arm. A minimum of 4k bytes of stack and 16k bytes of heap space is needed to use XcgfK. 300KB of read only memory is needed for a XcgfK system with a western font. A XcgfK system including a scalable Chinese font (16000 characters) would require at least 600KB of read only memory.
